Emergency Ordinance 04-2023 Defers the Effective Date of the City's Rent Stabilization Ordinance to January 1, 2024

Mayor and Council passed Emergency Ordinance 04-2023 during the Budget Meeting held on April 11 deferring the effective date of the City’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance until January 1, 2024.

While the operation of the City’s rent stabilization legislation is deferred, the City will be enforcing the Prince George’s County Rent Ordinance imposing a temporary cap of 3% for yearly rent increases throughout the County until the temporary restrictions on rent increases expire. The County's rent stabilization law took effect on April 17 and will automatically expire one year after the date.

The Rent County Ordinance was signed into law on March 1 while the City’s Rent Stabilization was passed unanimously on February 21.
