City of Mount Rainier Announces New City Manager

Mount Rainier, MD -- The City of Mount Rainier’s Mayor and Council are excited to announce the selection of Kourosh Kamali as Mount Rainier’s next City Manager. Selected through a unanimous 5-0 vote, Mr. Kamali will begin his tenure as City Manager on August 2, 2021.

Since joining the City of Mount Rainier as Director of Public Works in July of 2016, Mr. Kamali has secured close to $1,000,000 in total grant revenue, generated four consecutive years of operation budget surpluses, and successfully completed a wide range of improvement projects throughout the City.

“Mr. Kamali has brought a high level of professionalism and leadership as well as a collaborative approach to his work for the City. He’s been extremely effective managing large-scale projects funded by the state and other organizations. His commitment to the community and many years of executive experience will serve the residents of the City of Mount Rainier very well moving forward,” said Mayor Celina Benitez.

Prior to joining the City of Mount Rainier, Mr. Kamali spent two decades in the private sector working as the CEO of a company that managed multi-million dollar water and wastewater projects for international clients including the World Bank. Mr. Kamali also has previous experience in the public sector working as an Engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation.
