MRPD Police Officer Recognized for Apprehending Armed Robbery Suspect

Congratulations to Cpl. Anatoily Brodskiy of the Mount Rainier Police Department for receiving a Unit Citation Award for the apprehension of an armed, commercial robbery suspect on July 21, 2022.

According to MRPD, on July 21, 2022, at 2:14 a.m., a suspect entered a convenience store in the 2300 block of Varnum Street, armed with a knife, and announced a robbery to the store clerks. Cpl. Brodskiy was patrolling nearby when he observed the suspect exit the store on foot, wearing a black backpack with a white tank top shirt and black shorts. Store clerks alerted Cpl. Brodskiy of the robbery and pointed at the fleeing suspect. Cpl. Brodskiy pursued the suspect and apprehended him moments later in the 4500 block of Eastern Avenue.

Hyattsville PD K-9 responded to the scene and was able to track the knife that was used in the commercial robbery in the nearby gravel lot on Varnum Street. Officers were also able to recover approximately $163 in cash and several packs of Newport cigarettes that were taken from the store.
 
 MRPD Chief of Police Linwood Alston and  Acting Lt. David Calloway presented the award to Cpl. Brodskiy on Monday, July 25.
