Phase 1 construction continues this week along Newton Street between 34th Street and 37th Street. Thank you to our residents for your patience as crews move forward with this important improvement project. Phase 1 Construction Impacts: - The 34th Street entrance to Newton Street and Newton Place is closed during construction hours. (8 am – 5 pm)
- Traffic along Newton Street is reversed during the day and restored to normal after 5 pm.
- A detour allows residents to enter Newton Street via 37th Street during construction hours.
- Only residents of 37th Street and Newton Place may use the 37th Street entrance to access their properties.

The City of Mount Rainier’s Department of Economic Development is thrilled to announce a brand-new Mural Arts Project as part of our continued effort to revitalize and energize our downtown! Funded through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) Main Street Improvement Program, the City is seeking proposals to transform the wall at 4000 34th Street with a theme celebrating legendary icon Muhammad Ali! ENERGY BILL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO MARYLAND RESIDENTS

Maryland residents can get help with energy bills through the Maryland State and Pepco’s bill assistance programs. The Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP/LIHEAP) offers one-time grants of up to $750 to help cover utility costs—no repayment is required. Customers do not need to be behind on bills to qualify. Also, the Pepco Customer Relief Fund offers eligible customers up to $300 in relief, applied directly to their Pepco account.
