The Mount Rainier Day Festival held last Saturday, May 20, attended by residents and visitors, was a resounding success! Organized by the Mount Rainier Day Committee, led by Mayor Celina Benitez, the City 113th Anniversary celebration highlighted our wonderful community, our cultural diversity, and the talents within our community, leaving attendees with memories of a fun celebration.
The Mount Rainier Day Parade kicked off the festivities. The Junior Police Explorers led the parade that kicked off from Kaywood Theater, followed by Eastern High School Blue and White Marching Band, local school communities, civic organizations, elected officials, police and fire departments, representatives from various county departments.
This year's entertainment stage featured local musicians including Mount Rainier's Community Jamboree. The Community Jamboree, organized by long-time Mount Rainier resident, Vernon Sears, is a monthly gathering of local musicians during the warmer weather months to jam, collaborate and simply enjoy music.
The Mount Rainier Day Festival was not only a day of entertainment but also an opportunity to support small businesses lined up along Rhode Island Avenue to showcase their unique merchandise from arts to accessories, clothing, toys and more. Non-profit and civic organizations also provided information and free health screenings to the community.
For the younger attendees, a dedicated children's area provided an array of activities to keep them entertained including face painting, inflatable bounce houses, rock-climbing wall, games and entertainment from Payaso Monchito.
Thank you to all the participants, volunteers, sponsors, community members, local schools, the Mayor and Council, Elected Officials, and City Administration and staff who came together to make Mount Rainier Day a truly unforgettable celebration.
