After successfully completing the Façade Improvement Project along Rhode Island Avenue, the City of Mount Rainier Department of Economic Development is excited to announce the start of the 34th Street Façade Improvement Project. This transformative initiative aims to enhance the facades of commercial storefronts located in the heart of Mount Rainier's downtown core.
As part of the city's comprehensive Facade Improvement Program, the project will focus on revitalizing the appearance of 28 commercial storefronts representing 12 property owners, situated along the 3801 - 4010 blocks of 34th Street. The transformation will add an aesthetic appeal necessary to convey Mount Rainier's abundance of opportunities for visitors, residents, and entrepreneurs, support local businesses, and foster economic development within the city.
"The 34th Street Façade Improvement Project represents a significant step toward revitalizing our downtown core and attracting increased foot traffic to our local businesses. This initiative is a testament to our dedication to economic growth, and we are working collaboratively with property and business owners to make this vision a reality," Mayor Celina Benitez said.
The total budget allocated for the 34th Street Façade Improvement Project is $395,000.00. The City of Mount Rainier has successfully secured $100,000.00 through various DHCD (Department of Housing and Community Development) grants, allowing the first phase of the project to commence on July 1. Additionally, several grant applications have been submitted and the City is currently waiting for approval. The estimated completion date for the project is July 2024.
