City of Mount Rainier: Phase 2 Sidewalk Maintenance Project October 23 Update
Phase 2 of the City’s Sidewalk Maintenance Project is underway. Contractors are continuing work across designated areas, removing damaged concrete and preparing for the installation of new sidewalks.
Construction Activity Report: October 23:
Grace Management and Construction, the contractor for this project, is scheduled to pour and place new concrete at the following sites today:
- Rhode Island Avenue (between Perry Street and 37th Street)
- 29th Street (between Taylor Street and Arundel Street)
In addition to concrete placement, crews are simultaneously conducting site preparation, including the removal of existing damaged concrete, in other zones ahead of new installations.
Parking Restrictions:
To prepare for the upcoming construction activity, no parking signs are posted on the following streets:
- Shepherd Street (between 29th and 33rd)
- 32nd Street (between Upshur and Rainier)
- 32nd Street (between Taylor and Shepherd)
- Windom Road (between 31st and 32nd)
Phase 2 of the Sidewalk Maintenance Project covers the following locations:
- Rhode Island Avenue (Perry–37th)
- 29th Street (Upshur–Arundel)
- 29th Street (Bunker Hill–Shepherd)
- 32nd Street (Taylor–Shepherd)
- 32nd Street (Rainier–Upshur)
- 35th Street (Bunker Hill–Rhode Island)
- 35th Street (Bunker Hill–Shepherd)
- 36th Street (Bunker Hill–Shepherd)
- Bunker Hill Road (36th–34th)
- Shepherd Street (29th–33rd and 35th–37th)
- Upshur Street (29th–30th)
- Windom Road (31st–32nd)
During construction, sidewalk access in active work zones will be limited. Parking restrictions and temporary road closures will also be in effect.

Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Initiative: Sidewalk Maintenance Project Begins October 13

The City of Mount Rainier continues to make progress on its Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Initiative with the upcoming Sidewalk Maintenance Project, the second key initiative under the City’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety and accessibility.
Funded by a $9.7 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant, with a 20% match from the City, this citywide project is one of the key actions outlined in Mount Rainier’s Vision Zero Action Plan.
Phase 1 Schedule and Locations
Work is scheduled to begin the week of October 13 and is expected to take approximately 2–3 weeks, weather permitting.
Grace Management & Construction, the contractor for the project, will begin work on the following streets:
- 34th Street: Between Eastern Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue
- Otis Street: Between 37th Street and the intersection of Eastern and Rhode Island Avenue

The locations for the second phase include:
