In a momentous milestone for the city of Mount Rainier, the Mount Rainier Police Department (MRPD) was established in the year 1923 under the administration of Mayor Negus. Prior to the founding of this distinguished law enforcement agency, the City relied on constables to maintain order and safety. Today, as we celebrate a century of dedicated service to the community, MRPD reaffirms its unwavering commitment to "protect and serve."
Over the years, MRPD has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community. Today, it stands as a symbol of trust, professionalism, and dedication, fostering positive relationships with residents and serving as a cornerstone of public safety in Mount Rainier.
MRPD is committed to a policing model of Community Policing, working in partnership with community members, from residents to business owners to reduce crime, provide a sense of safety and security, and improve the quality of life of the community. The law enforcement agency also organizes annual events to connect with the community and strengthen the bond between law enforcement and residents including Public Safety Night, National Night Out, Coffee with a Cop, Trunk or Treat, and more.
As we celebrate MRPD’s remarkable milestone, the Mount Rainier Police Department will be hosting a Centennial Gala on November 2 at Martin’s Crosswinds. This celebration will be an opportunity to reflect on the rich history of our city and the dedicated service of MRPD officers.
The Mount Rainier Police Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the community for their continuous support throughout the past century. Together, we look forward to the next hundred years of unwavering service, collaboration, and progress.
