The Department of Economic Development issued a Request for Proposals to solicit proposals from general contractors interested in building, renovating and implementing the Rhode Island Avenue Façade Improvement Project.
Project Description
The 3201-3311 block of Rhode Island Avenue is in the downtown core of the city. The City of Mount Rainier’s downtown is in critical need of revitalization. The Rhode Island Avenue Façade Improvement Project is for one block of buildings on the right hand side of Rhode Island Avenue as you head towards College Park upon leaving Washington DC. There are 18 addresses located along the 3201-3311 block of Rhode Island Avenue. The 18 addresses represent 9 property owners. The proposed project involves the overall façade improvements and implementation of the following:
Exterior painting
Removing inappropriate exterior finishes and materials
Recessing/reconfiguring of existing doors and entrances
Repairing or replacing existing storefront window systems
Repairing persistent exterior damage (water damage, rotting wood, etc.)
Exterior building and sign lighting Removal of metal roll-down grates (no longer permitted in MUTC zone but have been grandfathered in) and replacement with an alternative security system
Add business signage and wayfinding signage Remove inappropriate business signs (vinyl signs, window signs that block interior views, etc.)
