The City of Mount Rainier is preparing for the City's biggest celebration, the Mount Rainier Day Festival bringing community members and neighboring communities together.

As part of the annual celebration, a parade will kick off Mount Rainier Day. This year, the parade will feature performances from the Eastern High School Marching Band, Mariachi Esmeralda, Payaso Monchito and Los Tecuanes de Riverdale.

Mayor Celina Benitez will lead this year's parade along with the City Council. The Mount Rainier Elementary School Parent Teacher's Association will also be walking this year's parade.

Also, in attendance this year, are the Legislative District 47 Delegation, Prince George's County Community Relations, PG County Office of Homeland Security, Mount Rainier Volunteer Fire Department, Top Flight Corvette Club and other members of the community.

The parade will start at Kaywood Theater and will end at Bunker Hill Fire Station. The Mount Rainier Police Department (MRPD), which will oversee the parade, advises citizens to expect road closures along the parade route. Parking will also be restricted along the route from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

As part of the 112th anniversary, the celebration will also highlight a Street Festival along Rhode Island Ave and Perry Street, which will feature live music and entertainment, over 60 vendors and kids' activities. Performances from Sylver Logan Sharp, Mariachi Esmeralda, Alex Martin, Pan Masters Steel Orchestra, Proverbs Reggae Band and the Mighty Peacemakers Band will turn Rhode Island Ave into a concert scene on Mount Rainier Day.

A wide variety of vendors from artists, artisans, retailers to food vendors are also expected to delight shoppers, foodies and anyone who are looking for unique finds.

Rhode Island Ave. (northbound), from the Historic Circle to 37th St. will be closed to traffic on Mount Rainier Day.
