The City has received a Stormwater Management Retrofit Grant from Chesapeake Bay Trust and Prince George’s County to install new rain gardens to capture stormwater runoff and improve the water quality conditions in the Anacostia River and the Chesapeake Bay.
Construction plans for the rain gardens were reviewed and approved by Chesapeake Bay Trust and Prince George’s County Department of Environment. All rain gardens will be installed on the grass strips located between the curb and sidewalks.
A contractor has been selected, and the City will begin installing rain gardens on July 5. All the residents that will be impacted by this project have been notified.
The schedule below includes project start dates as well as rain garden site plans:
July 5th Start Date: Perry Street between 33rd Street and Rhode Island Avenue (Circle)
July 13th Start Date: 28th Place between Russell Avenue and Arundel Road
July 28th Start Date: Kaywood Drive at the intersection of Russell Avenue
August 16th Start Date: Russell Avenue between Upshur Street and 28th Place
September 1st Start Date: 28th Place between Webster Street and Upshur Street
September 16th Start Date: Webster Street between 28th Place and 29th Street
