Statement from the Mount Rainier Police Department:
On 12/13/22 at approximately 1130 pm, MRPD Officers received a call for a carjacking in the 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue. A red/maroon sedan occupied by five armed individuals used their vehicle to bump the rear of a parked car that was occupied. When the victim in the parked car got out to inspect the damages, the suspects got out of their vehicle and announced a robbery, pointing handguns at the victim. The suspects demanded the victim’s wallet and car keys and then took possession of the victim’s vehicle, fleeing northbound on Rhode Island Avenue.
MRPD wants citizens to know to be cautious when facing this scenario. Suspects are using stolen vehicles to fake an accident or collision and making off with the unsuspecting victim’s vehicle. Please do not attempt to fight with the suspects, for they are considered armed and dangerous. Remember, material possessions are replaceable; YOU ARE NOT!!
