The Mount Rainier Arts Commission has announced the artworks selected for its Public Arts Banner Project.  During the November 1st Legislative Meeting, Mayor Celina Benitez, and Councilmembers Luke Chesek, Jimmy Tarlau, Jarrett Stoltzfus, and Valerie Woodall, unanimously voted on the 15 artworks presented by the Commission.

The Mount Rainier Arts Commission has reviewed over 50 submissions from Mount Rainier-based artists and 15 artworks were carefully selected based on a set of criteria.

“Before we sat down and talk through the 59 artworks that were presented, we went through these criteria and centered ourselves on selecting artwork that has relevance to the City. We wanted to make sure that the work was suitable for outdoor display to review the artworks that were presented,” Mount Rainier Arts Commissioner Ariel Davis said during the meeting.

Artworks from the following artists were selected:

Mayor and Council commended the Commissioners for spearheading the project and selecting pieces representative of the City’s diversity, culture and people.

“We are proud of you and proud of the work you do. All those pictures are just beautiful and powerful. You are walking in the neighborhood, and it will be going to bring thoughts into people’s minds or imaginations into kids’ minds,” Councilmember and Mount Rainier Arts Commission Liaison Luke Chesek said during the meeting.

The Lamp Post Display Art Project was launched by the Commission in August to showcase the talent of Mount Rainier-based artists while invigorating the City’s downtown area.
