Tree Commission Seeking New Commissioners

News Archive Posted on October 20, 2022

The Mount Rainier Tree Commission is seeking a few new members.

If you are enthusiastic about trees and public service, and you live in Mount Rainier, consider joining the Tree Commission.

The Tree Commission is a volunteer citizen group charged with working with the city council and staff to maintain and improve the city's tree canopy. Their objectives are to advise the city on trees, educate city staff and residents, advocate for the preservation of existing trees and expand the tree canopy within the city. Commissioners also have a formal role in reviewing public tree removals and hearing resident appeals under the permit process. Given the small size of the city, there is a lot the Tree Commission is part of - from helping to prune young trees, to coordinating new tree plantings, to initiating new projects. No experience needed, just an interest in trees.

The Commission welcome people who would like to contribute to the above efforts, or who have new ideas. If you have questions or want to learn more, please feel free to email them at treecommission@mountrainiermd.org
