Flag-Raising Ceremony Marks Pride Month Celebration in the City

The City of Mount Rainier uplifts the LGBTQIA+ community in celebration of Pride Month.

A flag-raising ceremony was held today to kick off the Pride Month celebration in the City, echo LGBTQIA+’s rights, and promote equality, acceptance, and diversity.

 

Mayor Celina Benitez was joined by Andy Torres, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Councilmember Valerie Woodall, City Manager Kourosh Kamali, and City Staff.

Mr. Torres, a Broadway and US Veteran and a long-time resident of Mount Rainier, led the raising of the Pride Flag.

During the ceremony, Mayor Celina Benitez also read Resolution 11-2020, a Resolution Designating the month of June as "Pride Month" in The City of Mount Rainier and Directing that the Pride and Transgender Flag Be Flown at City Hall annually in the month of June.

The Resolution was introduced in 2020 by then Councilmember Benitez.

In support of the LGBTQIA+ community, Mayor Celina Benitez encourages community members to join various events in the region and in the City.

Lineup starts at 9:30 a.m. at Thomas Stone Elementary School

Deadline for parade entry is June 5th.
