Two candidates will be running for the upcoming Special Election on April 25 to fill the vacant council member seat. Valerie Woodall and Toni George both filed their candidate packets on March 14, 2022, at City Hall and were certified by the Mount Rainier Board of Elections later that day through a virtual meeting.
VALERIE WOODALL
Mount Rainier is a diverse, active, multi-generational and sustainable place filled with innovators, creators and doers – I’d like to make sure we can keep it that way while expanding our economy and streamlining services.
I was born and raised in New York. My parents are musicians, so the arts community is dear to me. My first foray in Mount Rainier was a bicycle stop at Glut. I’ve lived in many places but when my husband and I were looking for a home, I knew exactly where to look.
I have experience in community building, organizing, coaching, and recently served 3 years as the Mount Rainier Elementary School PTO Grounds Committee Chair. Mount Rainier needs smart public policy and systems that work, strong ethics, and public trust in government.
I am dedicated to Mount Rainier’s success, and I think I’d be a good representative for you and Ward 2.
TONI GEORGE
In a city 1.7 square miles and a stone’s throw from the nation’s capital, I experience the arts, diversity, sanctuary and community in a place I call home, #MyMountRainier.
Covid-19 has disrupted our lives and impacted us all. It exposed the economic tightrope that renters walk, and hardworking hourly workers face on a monthly basis. Unemployment assistance was a temporary lifeline, but personal economic recovery will take time.
I used my skills as a union Carpenter to renovate the Mount Rainier Bike Co-op. I currently serve on our city’s Ethics Commission and Scholarship Committee. I have volunteered at MRTV and helped to distribute meals.
As your next Councilwoman for Ward 2, I am qualified, prepared and ready to serve. I want to hear your concerns, I’m ready to listen. Contact me at ToniGeorge.MyMountRainier. Let’s get to know each other. Vote for me, vote for common-sense solutions.
Registered voters in ward 2 may vote in person on April 25 at the Mount Rainier Nature/Recreation Center from 7 am to 8 pm or through absentee voting. A registered voter may request an absentee ballot application from the Mount Rainier Board of Elections or the City Clerk.
