At the May 4 City Council meeting, Mayor and Council adopted a City Resolution that honored former Mayor and Ward 1 Council Member Bryan Knedler for his distinguished service to the City of Mount Rainier.

Serving for a total of 20 years as Mayor and City Councilmember, Knedler “has championed efforts to remove blight, promote the welfare of the people of Mount Rainier, and protect the historical character of its neighborhoods.”

The resolution announced City Council Chambers will be named in Bryan Knedler’s honor and documented a list of Knedler’s accomplishments as an elected official in Mount Rainier:

  • Organizing legal and public pressure that led to the purchase of 3200 Rhode Island Avenue and its eventual redevelopment
  • Implementation of the City’s vacant property tax
  • Implementation of the City’s Urban Forest Code, helping to re-establish the City’s tree canopy
  • Rewriting many of the City’s outdated Code provisions
